I'd like to tell you about this past weekend, from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon (because that's the exciting bit!) I realized I had to write about this weekend, because here it is, monday afternoon, and in recalling the events of the previous Thursday night (a mere 3 and a half days ago!) , I had a hard time convincing myself it was only 3 days, and not 10 days, ago, because SO MUCH STUFF happened!
Thursday: Work happened. I got home from work, did a little reading, and pretty soon things got crazy when I discover that the Gin Mill happens to have a half off with CU ID deal going on thursdays - AND it's only three blocks away! This is a recipe for a Thursday night disaster, every Thursday.
Oh yeah, so a little backstory. My crazy dog neighbor? She's still there until the end of the month. Compromises, I guess. She's also a stalker and in love with me, and it is starting to seem like the reason she tried to move here to begin with was for a shot to..sleep with me. But I didn't know this yet, I thought she was just lonely, inconsiderate, had a loud dog and liked to knock on my door at odd hours of the night to ask stupid questions.
So, it's about 8pm and I decide it's time to head out. She hears me open my door..and follows! Being that it's only 3 blocks, I don't have much distance to hide from her so I try to be pleasant. Upon arriving there, she hands me a ten dollar bill and requests I "buy her a drink" - ok, what's going on here. It's something like $6, and I offer to get her another later because I used the change to tip for my drink too.
I have a new NYC activity, by the way. Talking to people! You ever have that story where you were somewhere and had a conversation with a random person; while it's not exactly like winning the lottery, it makes an otherwise routine moment a little more interesting.
I've just realized this is going to be a long, long post. I'm sure if you're reading, you've noticed the size of the scroll-bar.
So, I'm chatting some people up, play a game of beer pong, go to buy my neighbor the drink I owe her and..she's gone!! Oh well. Some girl, a nurse who moved here to follow her "ex" boyfriend (whom was sitting with her at the bar) offers her number, but I have to remember it when she asks me later before I'm "allowed" to enter it in my phone. This is an odd game, isn't it! as the night wears on I move next door to Jake's Dilema, which oddly enough has the same owners. Here we find deals on bottled beer, $10 if you buy six at a time in a bucket of ice. Sounds good to me! Wandering about, I make some new short term friends, help keep a drunk guy from Brooklyn awake at the bouncer's request (thinking I was his friend or something!)
Oh whoops. It's Friday. I should uh..take a nap for a few hours and get to work. Friday's are fun, because we have a little gathering at 4:30 with $2 beers (good stuff!) and for the first time, hanging on the porch outside! Megan and Teddy talk about work far, far too much. Ok, so this lasts until 6, hop on the bus back to NYC, hang out at the Heights..get home at 10. Ok nothing happened late Friday night, besides stalker lady asking me why I'm not out at the bar 17563252 times.
Saturday is when this gets *really* good - tell you all about that later!

Sorry Folks
One thing I've discovered is that I can't write when I'm distracted by housing issues. Unfortunately, this being NYC, i though *doubling* my monthly housing budget would fix that, as months 1 and 2 were not that great.
Let's just say, I poured a lot of money into this place. Good for landlord, good for me. I was happy about where i lived in NYC for, the first time.
2 weeks later, a new neighbor shows up. she is nosy, annoying, knocks on my door at random times, comes in unannounced ( I had to start locking myself in!) , has a loud whining dog (in a 14x10 apartment). I informed the landlord that this wasn't going to work for me and I wanted to move out. In a purely business driven decision, he decides to keep me, the "senior tenant" who lived alongside the other neighbor with no complaints, instead of her - she's supposed to be out after a week.
What do you say - Did I just put some girl and her dog on the street? Am I a terrible person?
You tell me that again when the thing is howling at the moon at 1 in the morning directly on the other side of the wall, and you're paying $1600 / a month to live in a 14 x 10 room.
